Sistering is a volunteer program for women who have experienced violence and trauma, and who have participated in individual counselling, woman abuse and sexual abuse group programs. The Sisters are at a stage in their own healing process whereby they wish to offer support to other women who would benefit from having another woman journey with them along the healing process.
This program offers a 12 week training and formation process which includes paraprofessional skills development and opportunities for personal growth. As women grow spiritually and relationally in the search for meaning and purpose, they create together a loving community of women who nurture and support one another.
The mentoring Sisters are then matched one-to-one with women who benefit from having another women who has experienced violence companion them as they begin or continue their healing. The Sistering Program is now 10 years old and has been a wonderful celebration of the transformative power of loving and supportive relationship that carries the potential to create a hope filled future.
The Sistering Program also sponsors workshops for the community on a variety of topics relevant to personal and communal wellness. Our Sisters speak regularly to congregations, agencies, businesses and community groups on the impact of violence on our families, society and culture.
